Joseph R. Stoorza

     Joseph R Stoorza, 89, of Bloomingdale, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, N.Y. surrounded by his family.  He was born August 4, 1917 in Mount Kisco, New York, the son of the late Joseph and Lena Stoorza.

     Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a member of the 208th Combat Engineer Battalion in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II.

    On April 4, 1948 he married Ruth Reynolds in Mount Kisco, N.Y. Ruth predeceased him on December 31, 1997.  He is survived by his sons, Dan and wife, Debbie, of Saranac Lake, N.Y. and Rich and his wife, Fran, of Surfside Beach.  Joseph is also survived by grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Keri, of Berwick, Maine, Tad of Crested Butte, Colo., Eric of New Zealand, Keegan of Saranac Lake, N.Y. and Becky Sorensen and her husband, Bob, of Surfside Beach.  He is also survived by a sister, Anna of Hemet, Calif.; brother, Edward of Grand Island, N.Y.; nephews, Robert Hahne (Jackie) of Gabriels, N.Y., James Hahne of Ore. and John Stoorza (Lois) of Grand Island, N.Y.; and nieces, Holly Hahne-Shuchart of Reisterstown, Md., Anne Feldman of Mount Kisco, N.Y. and Bea Lana (William) of Nashua, N.H.

     Joseph was a member of the American Legion Post in Highland, N.Y., exempt member of the Union Hook and Ladder of Mount Kisco, Senior Member of WCVFA, National VFW and Surfside United Methodist Church in Surfside Beach.

     He was retired from IBM, Fishkill as an electrician.

     Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Mount Kisco, N.Y.   Cremation and services to the family entrusted to Fortune-Keough Funeral Home of Saranac Lake, N.Y.

     In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent in Joseph's name to Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 509, Saranac Lake, NY 12983 or High Peaks Hospice, PO Box 840, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
